Ocular Injuries
The ocular traumatology has particularities that differentiate it from the traumatology of the other parts of the body, due to the extreme sensitivity of the eyeball. As in other organs, the healing of the trauma represents the complete normality of its function, in the eye traumatic injuries almost always leave a sequel that represents a functional deficit. If the cornea is the injured organ, the scar alters the transparency and the shape of its surface, if it is the lens, cataracts are produced and if the retina is the injured one, the vision is definitely more or less compromised.
Ocular trauma is defined as any lesion caused by contusive or penetrating mechanisms on the ocular globe and its peripheral structures causing tissue damage of varying degrees of affectation (mild, moderate and severe) with compromise of visual, temporary or permanent function.
